Glittery Guitars and Sultry Tones: SILVER ROSE

Silver Rose's music is totally badass. She manages to create tunes that rock out with heavy guitars and drums, while using her soulful and melodic voice to float above them like clouds. Her sound is a mixture of sultry tones and shimmering guitars. What a babe.

Hi, Carla! Introduce yourself to us.
I'm Carla Sariñana, I´m a bass player/singer from Mexico City.

Explain your musical style?
It depends, on my solo stuff with Silver Rose I'm really influenced by shoegaze/dreampop/rock/psychedelic bands, anything that sounds like music you'd want to sit at home or in your car and enjoy.

What was the inspiration behind Take Me Home?
I was really into this band called The Black Ryder and had just gone to see a show of theirs. I guess I just wanted a song that sounded sweet and cool, something that could take you somewhere.

We're a magazine for women, who is the most inspirational woman in your life?
My mom and grandmother. I have always been inspired by strong women, especially in music, they motivate me to keep doing what I do. In music I've always looked up to Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks, Kathleen Hana, PJ Harvey, Natasha Kahn, Kim Deal and many more..

What's the best bit of advice you've ever received?
That´s a tough one! "One day at a time" I guess... Literally live you life one day at a time.

What were you listening to growing up?
Being a kid in the 90s it was a bit hard not to listen to the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Backstreet boys and all the big pop stars. But my dad was always really into classic rock so I also grew up listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Led Zeppelin, Queen,  and big latin rock bands like Hombres G, Caifanes and Mecano.

What do you think is the biggest challenge you face as a woman in the music industry?
Getting taken seriously.. that's always been an issue unfortunately.

Tell us your favourite story from Tour?
I guess the time we (Ruido Rosa) opened for KISS in Mexico, we did two shows. On the first one, I don't know how, we ended up in their lunch room and met them (we were the only women in the room), they were incredibly nice and Gene Simmons obviously checked us out.. it was my first "Big" show, it was a wonderful experience. Their guitar tech gave us good tips and helped us out during all the shows.. I guess when you see extremely successful people being helpful to those who are just beginning, it's a nice feeling.

What are your plans for 2017?
I've been working on new music with my other band Ruido Rosa and finishing up ideas for the new stuff for Silver Rose, so I hope to record some new songs by the end of the year.

What musical acts are your guilty pleasure?
I don´t really consider them a guilty pleasure but I love Katy Perry and Rihanna.

Was there a moment when you were like, 'I want to be a musician when I grow up?'
I don´t know if I had that.. I only had a moment that I knew I wanted to be in Music in some way.. I was 15 and just discovered Radiohead, it was with them that I fell completely in love with music.
